Height 2 7/8" Width 1 1/2" Weight 5 oz. The fox is one of the most uniquely skilled and ingenious animals in nature. It was thought to be a guide to entering the Faerie Realm. Cherokees called upon fox medicine to prevent frostbite, and Hopi shamans wear fox skins in their healing ceremonies. The fox is held in esteem in societies all over the world. Foxes use their large ears to dissipate heat during the summer. Foxes are clever about being unseen, using camouflage and darkness to go unnoticed. In the winter, the fox grows a thick tuft of fur on the toe pads to keep the feet warm, and afford better traction. An excellent swimmer, the fox trots effortlessly on land. Few animals of a similar size can outrun a fox. When it runs, the tracks look like a single line of footprints. Foxes have been seen to run up trees. Their hearing is so acute, they are said to be able to hear the squeal of a mouse over 150 yards away.
